Coliform and E. coli Bacteria Testing in Rexburg, ID

Total coliform bacteria are an indicator. Most strains will not make you sick, but their presence means surface water or soil is getting into the well. E. coli is different. It comes from human or animal waste, and a positive result means stop drinking the water until it is fixed.

Rexburg, ID Well Water Treatment handles coliform and E. coli bacteria testing in Rexburg, ID with sterile, sodium thiosulfate bottles and a clean sampling routine. We disinfect the tap, run the water, fill without touching the inside of the cap, and keep the sample cold on the way to the lab.

Common reasons a well tests positive:

• A cracked or loose well cap that lets insects and runoff in
• Casing that ends below grade or has corroded
• A failed grout seal around the casing
• A septic field or barnyard too close to the well
• Recent flooding

A positive result is not the end of the story. We look at the wellhead, check the cap and vent screen, and then recommend shock chlorination, a UV system, or a repair. After treatment we retest to confirm the water is clear.
